2024 Rural Surgery Rounds Collaboration – We are thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration between Rural Surgery Rounds, Rural Surgical and Obstetrics Network of Alberta (RSONA) and the University of Alberta, Office of Global Surgery in delivering virtual rounds for the 2024 season. This partnership represents a significant milestone in our shared mission to advance surgical care and education in rural communities. Our goal is to provide opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional development, and networking among rural surgeons, obstetricians, tertiary specialists and other healthcare practitioners. Through interactive virtual rounds, we will explore innovative strategies, discuss challenging cases, and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient care and surgical outcomes in rural settings. We look forward to leveraging this collaboration to strengthen the rural surgical community and improve healthcare access for all.
Virtual Rounds Objectives
- Share best practices amongst OSS/ESS providers
- Provide CPD opportunities
- Case review with peers
- Network OSS/ESS practitioners and residents across Canada
RSONA CME Objectives
- To contribute to the improvement of rural care and provision of sustainable rural surgical services through a networked care approach. This model emphasizes the broader engagement of rural surgical and obstetrical teams and connects them to their regional and tertiary colleagues.
- To provide opportunities for continuing medical education that is targeted at local needs and is relevant to all healthcare providers in distributed sites. These teams include but are not limited to ESS/OSS physicians, surgical nursing staff, family physicians with enhanced skills in anesthesia, endoscopists, rural site managers, and allied health members among others.
- To facilitate the engagement of the Alberta specialist community and strengthen the relationships between tertiary specialists and rural surgical and obstetrical teams.
- These connections will be enhanced further by developing a coaching program and residency training nested within the larger RSONA initiative.
